Donor Wrangler

One of the things about me that you may not know is that I worked in the not-for-profit world for around two and a half years before working on web applications full time. During that time, I was responsible for (among other things) managing all of the incoming donations and making sure that donors were acknowledged and receipted. We also had to organize year-end mailings, track pledges, and lots of other data entry/management tasks.

The thing that struck me the most was how the tools that were used for the task weren’t very easy to use, even for me! In conversations with our director, I kept saying that we’d be better off by having me build one of our own. Before long, I had followed through on that threat and created the Donor Wrangler.

The Donor Wrangler is designed to be as easy as possible to use for the everyday tasks mentioned above. It helps eliminate double entry (such as needing a separate Excel file to run mail merges for thank you letters) and allows for easier coordination between staff by allowing them to log specific interactions with donors and create tasks to ensure that necessary followup is performed.

The system is currently (as of November 2015) being trialled by several local non-profit organizations.
